Katrin Kirk is a Danish artist who creates sculptures and 3D pictures by manipulating metal mesh to evoke a sense of calm and capture a stillness , working and living in an old shoe factory in the middle of a small village.

She enjoys the challenges of working with a material that can be transformed from something hard and flat into something light and voluminous which plays with depth and shadows.

Katrin has been a spiritual wanderer from an early age, most notably going to India where she worked with an NGO to help found a children’s education company. Understanding this world of contrasts only strengthened her knowledge of the practice of meditation. This acquired experience is now integral to the way she creates her artwork today, done in an environment of stillness.

In between her travels to Vancouver, New York, Tenerife, Bhubaneswar - the place where she stayed for a pre-longed period - she then returned to Copenhagen for professional reasons which centred around managing a fashion business.

Never settling for more than two years in one place, she finally found her spiritual home in the Balearics . The energy of the Serra de Tramuntana convinced her to stay for, now, thirteen years. In the beginning she involved herself in building projects and refurbishing Mallorquín houses until, at a certain point, something internal told her to express herself artistically. In that moment, she knew that this is the place she wanted to be: creating art.

BEEHIVE, ALARO’, MALLORCA

  • 2018/19: Katrin headed a group of likeminded peers in opening a creative hub in Alaro’. It is a space for innovative and imaginative people across the island to show their works to the passing public. From fashion-designers, jewellers and musicians to painters, sculptors and culinary masters. These events have quickly grown in popularity, attracting not only people and creatives from all four corners of Mallorca but also the main media outlets, curious for the next big story. Thus, placing Alaro’ securely on the artistic map of the island. The BEEHIVE has many ideas for the upcoming months. Stay updated and meet the artists here.
