‘BLUE’ - RIALTO LIVING GALLERY - PALMA DE MALLORCA

This solo exhibition was centred around summer and sea. This is the first the exhibition wherein the 2D pieces were created using two layers of mesh, each layer was moulded in relief by hand and then placed - one on top of the other - about 5cm apart. This creates a 3D effect to the existent moire’, allowing the works to escape the boundaries of the frame. Next they were carefully sprayed to give the effect of movement when one walks past the artwork.

The portraits of the ‘Ladies from a different era’, were made using a very different procedure. First, only the faces were drawn onto a canvas with charcoal. Next, the same face was moulded in 3D in mesh and set in front of the canvas. The rest of the portrait was done only using mesh. Even greater depth was achieved once lights were added so as to throw a shadow from the mesh onto the canvas.

‘TROPIC-0’ - RIALTO LIVING GALLERY - PALMA DE MALLORCA

In this solo exhibition, a different technique was employed. Starting with a sprayed wooden background, hand-moulded sprayed mesh was mounted on top, using the 2D mesh process. To finish, 3D mould mesh pieces (leaves, fruit etc.) were mounted in front of the 2D mesh layer. This staying in Katrin’s overall style of creating depth where it would not usually exist. This exhibition is daring in its expression, hence the very strong and dark colour palette.

‘LIFE’ - CONVENT DE LA MISSIO’ HOTEL - PALMA DE MALLORCA

This exhibition set in a beautiful hotel in the heart of Palma was centred around the jellyfish and its unified movement in swarms. The aim was to create an underworld space that gives the impression of walking through a floating bloom of jellyfish, all entangled in each other as they would move in real life. Thus, bringing you away from the humdrum of the land above. A place to sit and be peacefully underwater.

Once again, light and shadow play an important role in Katrin’s work. Here, thanks to the material used, the light passes through the jellyfish and projects the shadows onto the backdrop, in an array of colours. Thus achieving the depth, dimension, intensity and realness that Katrin had strived for.
